Custom Galaxy-Series Aircraft-Grade UPS System
 |
The
Galaxy-Series UPS System can be modified for the most severe environment
applications, including aircraft. The example pictured is a compact 2 KVA
unit currently in use by the US Coast Guard on the HU25 aircraft. This
model has a three-phase (aircraft power) input of 115/200 VAC, 400 Hz and
a pure sinewave output of 120 VAC, 60 Hz, Single-Phase. This UPS System
contains all of the features standard on other Galaxy-Series units, as
well as additional features that make it ideal for aircraft applications.
These features include: |
-
Additional Ruggedization to meet MIL-STD-810:
The UPS System’s construction is extremely robust, and ruggedized
throughout. All components and modules within the unit are mounted using
additional steel brackets and heavy-duty stainless-steel hardware, which is
then further secured using Loctite and RTV where required. All boards are
triple conformal-coated (Acrylic MIL-I-46058 Type R) and mounted vertically
for maximum resistance to potential condensation and fungus growth. For
additional protection against humidity, low-draw heating elements are
included within the unit, and drain holes are placed strategically in the
base of the chassis to allow any formed condensation to escape.
-
Internal EMI Reduction Package to meet MIL-STD-461:
The design of this unit is specifically focused on reducing EMI emissions.
The UPS contains substantial internal filtering to minimize EMI emissions,
including a very large input filter rated for MIL-STD-461 CE03 applications
and a hefty output filter as well. Inputs which may be susceptible to
transients related to aircraft applications are protected by several
methods, including MOVs. All internal magnetics are shielded with copper and
mu-metal to further minimize emissions. The compact rack mount chassis (7”
High x 19” Wide x 22.25” Deep) is specifically treated with low surface
resistivity finishes on the interior. All aluminum parts are treated with
clear irridite. The steel parts are treated with zinc plate, followed by a
clear chromate. All exterior portions (except for mating surfaces) are then
painted with glossy ANSI-61 gray to assure excellent bonding of mating sheet
metal parts. All input and output ventilation filters include metal
honeycomb-style filters. The results of these and other measures provide a
UPS System that complies to portions of MIL-STD-461 by inherent design
methods.
-
Super-Rugged, Long Life Hawker Energy Batteries: Internal Hawker Energy batteries provide over 5
minutes back up time at full load. These batteries are extremely resistant
to shock, vibration, and wide temperature ranges. Also, they have a very
long service life (8-10 years measured at 25 degrees Celsius ambient
temperature) for a minimum of maintenance.
The
features shown above can be incorporated on most of our standard UPS models –
we offer Rugged Aircraft-Grade UPS Systems in all of our standard rack-mount
packages, from 1-5+ KVA. We can also incorporate these additional features on
our DC-AC Inverters and Frequency Converters as well. If you have a unique
aircraft application that calls for a rugged AC power source, please don’t
hesitate to contact us – we have over 35 years of experience designing and
manufacturing America’s best power conversion equipment for harsh environment
applications!
