US NAVY AN/UYQ-70 PROGRAM UTILIZES
NOVA ELECTRIC’S RUGGED 48 VDC & 155 VDC INVERTERS
The Lockheed Martin-DRS
Technologies-Raytheon team chose Nova Electric as the exclusive Rugged DC-AC
Inverter System supplier for the AN/UYQ-70 Advanced Display System, one of
the first standard combat system elements implemented with
an open-system architecture. The AN/UYQ-70 hardware and software
architecture provide the cornerstone for solving the problems of modernizing
combat and mission-critical systems for the U.S. Navy, as well as other
Department of Defense applications, including other sea, land, airborne
military platforms. The Q-70 workstation is currently playing a key role in
the modernization of combat systems on major Navy programs such as Aegis
(forward fit and back fit), Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC), Ship
Self-Defense System (SSDS), Advanced Combat Direction System (ACDS), E-2C
Surveillance Aircraft,
AN/SQQ-89(V)X, and the New Attack Submarine (NSSN) Demonstration Program.
All of these platforms are now planning for or already deploying the Q-70
equipment. Hundreds of these systems are in service today, and stay powered
thanks to Nova Electric’s reliable pure sinewave Inverters!

The New Global Hawk UAV
pictured to the left, made by Northrop Grumman Ryan Aeronautical and Raytheon,
has a power buss that is made up entirely of COTS equipment. The plane is as
large as a manned aircraft (Boeing 727). The Global Hawk can fly 1,200 miles
to an area of interest, remain on station for 24 hours, servey an area of
60,000 square miles- roughly the size of Illinois and then return 1,200
miles to its operating base. The UAV has a range of 13,500 nautical miles,
at altitudes as high as 65,000 ft. and an endurance of 36 hours. During a
typical mission, the Global Hawk sensor suite can provide near real time
imagery of the area of interest to the battlefield command via satellite.
The UAV is programmed and controlled via a ground station. A pilot and other
ground support personnel the sit in a ground shelter, located at some remote
location, control the aircraft. The Ground Shelter is powered by a specially
designed power system, consisting of a generator and a UPS system. The UPS
system is a ruggedized COTS system designed and built by NOVA ELECTRIC. |

VMIOP4X - RUGGEDIZED MULTI
INPUT / OUTPUT VEHICULAR POWER SYSTEM:
The VMIOP4X System is comprised of four 19" rack-mount drawers that work in
conjunction to accept multiple inputs from standard power sources and
deliver multiple output voltages to military systems. This modular design
reflects the
latest technology in western military power architecture, and places high
emphasis on maximum flexibility in configuration. This rugged system is
extremely adaptive and versatile for use in many types of military and other
harsh-environment applications. |

PORTABLE MILITARIZED GALAXY-SERIES DC-AC INVERTERS: This specialized
series of inverters was developed specifically for mobile military
applications, and is currently in use by NATO forces internationally. The
rugged, lightweight design and portable enclosure, coupled with Nova's
proven reliability, make this series ideal for any Harsh Environment
application! These units are especially designed for use in ground vehicles,
to convert 24,
48, or 120 VDC vehicle battery power
into AC to power test equipment or various instrumentation. The inverters
can be either mounted within vehicles or easily hand-carried by one person.
In addition to the standard equipment found on our standard Galaxy-Series
inverters, these models also contain other key features, including wide
temperature operation, extensive EMI filtering, heavy-duty input circuit
breakers, and additional ruggedization against shock, vibration, and
humidity. |

Custom
Galaxy-Series Aircraft-Grade UPS System: The Galaxy-Series
UPS System can be modified for the most severe environment applications,
including aircraft. The example pictured is a compact 2 KVA unit currently
in use by the US Coast Guard on the HU25 aircraft. This model has a
three-phase (aircraft power) input of 115/200 VAC, 400 Hz and a pure
sinewave output of 120 VAC, 60 Hz, Single-Phase. This UPS System contains
all of the features standard on other Galaxy-Series units, as well as
additional features that make it ideal for aircraft applications. These
features include additional ruggedization against shock, vibration, and
humidity, an internal EMI reduction package to meet portions of MIL-STD-461,
and super rugged, long life Hawker Energy batteries. |

CUSTOM WPC SHIPBOARD POWER SYSTEM:
The water-cooled WPC Shipboard Power System, compliant to MIL-STD-1399,
is another example of Nova Electric’s abilities to design and manufacture
cutting edge COTS power sources for custom applications. Essentially, the
WPC is a compact, lightweight, militarized AC-DC power supply and AC-AC
frequency converter all in one. This advanced unit converts an input of
115VAC, 60Hz, Three-Phase line-to-line to 208VAC, 400Hz, Three-Phase
line-to-line (2KW), and additionally to six DC outputs (1 KW), for a total
power output of 3KW. With a total efficiency of 80%, the unit runs reliably
with a moderate amount of water flow for cooling.

CUSTOM HMMWV
and ARMORED VEHICLE POWER CONVERTER MODULE: The Nova Electric Power
Conversion Module (PCM) is another example of our ability to design and
manufacture extremely robust, high power power sources for the most
demanding environments in existence. The compact, water-cooled PCM, which
has dual inputs (320-420 VAC, 725 Hz, 25A and 230 VAC, 50-60 Hz, 111A) and
dual outputs (230 VAC, 60 Hz, 50A and 28 VDC @ 147A) is utilized to power
the Environmental Control Units and other special instrumentation used on
HMMWV and Armored Vehicles in the JSLNBCRS Program. |
